At Hantz Honey, the health and wellbeing of our bee hives is paramount. Through careful management of our hives, using practices we’ve refined over three dedicated Hantz generations, our bees are producing above average quantities of honey per year, which is an affirmative reflection of the health of our hives.
With over 70 years of experience producing and packing honey for both international and domestic markets. Hantz Honey products are produced and packed by the beekeeper, unlike many other honey products on the shelves today. Hantz Honey is pure, raw, authentic honey, a trusted brand which is extremely price competitive. All our honey is traceable back to the beehive where it originated from. This makes for superior, high quality honey, produced with the knowledge that the health of our bees are our main focus.
Hantz Honey beehives have been providing pollination services around the Ellesmere and mid Canterbury areas for over 40 years. With the specialized equipment and expertise to move anywhere between 6 and 400 high quality hives in a very short time, Hantz Honey aim to move hives to work seamlessly with your pollination requirements.

Honey Varieties
We produce a wonderful variety of pure, natural, raw New Zealand Honey. Each honey has its own unique flavour, texture and colour, which is dependent on the blossoms visited by our honey bees and what crops they may be pollinating. There’s more than one way to manage hives, but here at Hantz Honey, we like things done our way. Our way today is not far removed from the way that Les and Maisie Hantz were doing things back in the 1940’s, in the first years of what was to become Hantz Honey.
We’ve refined those ‘best practices’ over the years and our winning ways have certainly paid off in the health and well-being of our bees. Today, Hantz Honey is proudly run by a 3rd generation of Hantz, with the potential of a 4th generation who are currently our “little helpers” – with a firm love and respect for the bees and an eagerness to be involved. We are a successful and well-reputed commercial beekeeping business running over 4000 beehives, providing the following goods and services; pollination; sale of mated queens; contract extracting and packing; honey sales (domestic and export) to retail and wholesale customers.

A Sustainable Hive Of Industry
As a business spanning three generations, and working towards providing for the next, sustainability both in business and environmental terms is of great importance to us and our bees. A fourth generation is wanting to be involved, though a little young yet, we’re sure they will further our ideals of a more environmentally sustainable, ever-evolving, hive-health focused business.
Home Base
Major riparian planting has taken place over many years on our home block, around spring-fed Hart’s Creek. We have chosen not to intensively farm our land as it boarders Lake Ellesmere which provides an expansive playground for native flora and fauna.
Recycled Packaging
Hantz Honey is concerned about the impact commercial activities have on the environment, especially our packaging. It is clear traditional packaging has become unsustainable so Hantz Honey went to the market looking for more environmentally friendly options. Our clear PET poly jars are made out of 70% recycled plastic, making them both reusable and recyclable.
Trees for Bees
Hantz Honey is an established project farm and foundation member of Trees for Bees Research Trust who are a non-profit organisation with a focus on nationwide bee health.
The Trees for Bees programme exists to research the value of candidate bee forage plants and create templates for beekeepers and landowners to design and install strategic plantations of bee feed that will maximize bee health and survival in New Zealand.
Solar Powered Honey House
We operate a solar powered honey factory – the only one in the South Island! We are using renewable energy where we can. It has made great business and environmental sense to embrace this technology.
